ABOUT RAMDAT

is a lifelong Bronxite with a passion for serving others. Raised in the 81st Assembly district’s Norwood neighborhood, Ramdat is a first-generation Indo-Caribbean, the son of Guyanese immigrants. In 2022, Ramdat was elected District  Leader, along with Social Worker Abigail Martin.

 

Growing up in Norwood, he attended the local schools; PS 94, MS 80 and Marble Hill School for International Studies, and studied Political Science and Public Policy at CUNY- City College of New York (CCNY). Soon after graduating from CCNY, he attended CUNY- Brooklyn College to earn a Master of Science in Education (MS. Ed). For the past 6 years, Ramdat has taught history and special education in the community and has taught at-risk youth in the Young Adult Borough Center (YABC) program. While working as an Educator, Ramdat has advocated and testified at City Hall for educational investments and has drafted policies focused on community schools and restorative justice practices. For the past ten years, he has worked on getting communities civically engaged through voter education campaigns. While serving as the Director of Civic Engagement, he launched a Caribbean-focused voter education campaign to educate Caribbean immigrants about local elections, census outreach, and legislative redistricting. 

 

Ramdat is an active member of Community Board 8, serving on Parks and Aging committees. Previously, he was the Chair of the Parks Committee and served on the youth, education and special committee on racial equity.
 

Since getting elected as District Leader, Ramdat, along with both Abigail Martin and Morgan Evers has begun to tackle the issue of voter turnout. Along with Democratic activists, the Unity Democratic Club was launched to bring new energy into the local democratic party. 

Ramdat understands the community and the needs of the district. As your District Leader, he will continue to fight and bring resources to the district, especially for the neediest community members.
